Issue: #28 - June 1997
Title: Oh, Now I Get It...
Creative Team: Scott Lobdell (story), Chirs Bachalo (pencils), Al Vey (inks), Joe Andreani (colors), Starkings (letters).
Summary/Review: Another fun-filled issue of Generation X here. Remember when a frog hosted the story? Well, this time it's a bird.
It atarts of as a dream on a ressurected boat in the middle of the ocean, a dream that's in reality and filled with all the kids' hopes and wants. Except Skin. You see, this is all false, created by Glorian, the Shaper of Dreams. He looked into their minds, saw what he thought they wanted, and created it for them. Synch raising a family with Jubilee, Monet living the good life with her brother, and Paige and Jono happy and whole. But this wasn't what they really wanted. Even without the power Glorion has, Skin is able to tell what they want much more accuratly than he. As for Skin himself, he doesn't want anything. He's not completely happy, no, but he makes due and is very proud of what he's got. So he defeats Glorian by showing just a smidgen of something he could want: friends, self, and to go home. And so they go home, to Skin's hometown in LA.
Meanwhile, Banshee and Ms. Frost make their way to Krakoa, the living island, because that is where he believes Black Tom, his cousin, sent them to. When they arrive, they find a rusted, empty ship in it's place with no one on it. Then they hear a distress call from Cyclops over the radio and without a lead as to where the kids could be, they have no choice but to go and help them.
Also, back in New Mexico where Jubilee is being held by Bastion and the rest of Operation: Zero Tolerance, Jubes attempts another escape when Daria visits her, only to be attacked, without Daria's consent, by thousands of robotic bee-like machines that sprang from Daria's defense.
Uh oh. That's bad.
Quick Thoughts: This issue was just full of character development/insight. We got to see what their hopes and dreams were, some of their fears, and most of all, we got to see just how strong Skin really was. And throwing in another under-used character that most would have never heard of (Glorion, in this case), was a nice touch. A little bumpy, transition-wise from the last issue, but still cool.
